Butterflies hosted an International Child Health Cooperative Workshop in New Delhi from May 19-21, 2014. Participants included 42 youth members of Child Health Cooperatives (CHCs) and representatives of 18 NGOs representing 6 countries (India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan and Ghana). The children learned about diseases such as cholera and malaria, and discussed the important role children can play in preventing these diseases. They exchanged information about health issues in their respective regions and talked about possible solutions as part of the preparation of action plans to address these issues in their own countries. Dr. Rakesh of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) conducted first aid training for the participants, after which the children were presented with certificates and first aid kits. Ms. Mamta Sahai, a member of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights, served as Chief Guest of the workshop. She listened to the children’s concerns and encouraged their initiatives to work together for a safer and healthier future.
