For children living on the streets of New Delhi, getting one good meal a day can be difficult — with opportunities for a successful future, even rarer still. Recognizing a valuable connection between children’s nutrition and healthy eating and youth livelihoods, in 2009 Butterflies expanded its community kitchen. Butterflies School of Culinary & Catering (BSCC) was created to provide practical training in culinary skills and entrepreneurship to street-connected youth.
But today, BSCC faces new challenges to serving its students. Help Butterflies by giving a tax-deductible gift that goes towards BSCC components such as: kitchen equipment, food supplies, student uniforms, training module development, job search support, and more.
Your support helps deliver opportunity in the lives of hopeful young students. Please donate today!
Butterflies School of Culinary & Catering (BSCC)
Butterflies NGO pioneered culinary training for underserved youth, launching the first program in India more than 20 years ago. The 2-year curriculum prepares adolescents, 17+ years, for hospitality careers. Simultaneously they complete their high school education through the National Institute of Open Schooling. Exposed to varied cuisines, students get hands-on training in nutrition, food preparation, packaging, distribution, marketing, and financial management. Industrial training and internships at prestigious institutions cap the experience.
Chakhle Dili
Butterflies’ catering service prepares and delivers employee lunches to local corporate, government, and NGO offices. Chakhle Dili’s catered special events provide another training experience for the apprentice BSCC chefs. During COVID BSCC teachers and trainees switched to preparing packaged meals for the sick and Resilience Center residents. As Delhi opened up, the government recruited the BSCC team to provide nutrition at its 8 open-air contact points while all of Delhi’s primary schools remain closed.
